Supplying drainage for one of Australia’s most recognised landmarks called for more than a standard solution. At the Sydney Opera House, OrcaDrain combined Australian manufacturing with a custom finish designed to respect the site’s heritage character.
Australian-made 300mm-wide polymer concrete channels were installed with a custom brass-edged slot drain. The discreet slot opening integrated drainage into the surrounding paving, while the brass detailing helped preserve the heritage integrity of this iconic tourist destination.
The polymer concrete channels provided strength, chemical resistance and durability beneath the carefully considered surface finish. Widely specified for trench drainage, polymer concrete offered a practical foundation for a system that needed to balance performance with architectural sensitivity.
The project showcased the Orca team’s willingness to embrace a challenge. By combining an established channel system with custom detailing, the team delivered a drainage solution tailored to the setting. It remains a proud example of Australian-made products contributing to one of the country’s most celebrated places.
This project formed part of Orca’s established project history before the brand joined Mascot Engineering. OrcaDrain is now a new addition to the Mascot Engineering range, bringing proven polymer concrete drainage technology and Australian manufacturing expertise to our broader drainage offering.
