Environment and Sustainability

Protecting the future

As a local, family-owned business now in its third generation, Mascot Engineering is committed to reducing environmental impact across every stage of our operations — from manufacturing and storage through to packing and distribution.

Both our Western Sydney and Melbourne manufacturing facilities operate on solar power, use recycled water in manufacturing processes, and waste-reduction is embedded into daily operations. Through ongoing innovation and strong operational controls, we continue to introduce initiatives that reduce environmental impact and positively protect the environment.

And it’s not just our processes — it’s our products too.

Mascot Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) & the Environment

Independent research has demonstrated the environmental benefits of Glass Reinforced Concrete. A joint study by the UK Government and the Concrete Industry Alliance concluded that GRC has a lower environmental impact — approximately 40% less — than comparable products manufactured from other precast concrete materials.

Mascot Engineering also focuses on the positive functional role our products play in the effective management and treatment of wastewater, helping to protect the broader environment from harm.

OrcaGreen Polymer Concrete

OrcaGreen Polymer Concrete is manufactured locally using a process designed to reduce reliance on virgin raw materials and minimise environmental impact. The material incorporates up to 80% recycled glass and/or gravel in its dry aggregate blend, replacing virgin quarried materials such as sand.

This capability enables waste glass — including material that cannot be recovered through conventional recycling streams — to be transformed into high-performance polymer concrete for civil-infrastructure applications. By diverting significant volumes of glass from landfill, OrcaGreen supports the circular economy while delivering the strength, durability, and long service life required in demanding environments.

HDPE Channel

Sourced from industrial scrap and products at the end of their operational life, the Technodrain Channel body is manufactured from 100% recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE).This approach supports a circular economy by diverting materials from landfill and reintroducing them into high-performance civil infrastructure products.

ISO 14001 – Third Party Certification

All Mascot Engineering castings, including grates and covers, are manufactured in an ISO 14001–accredited foundry. Notably, this was the first foundry in the world to implement an effective environmental management system (EMS) and achieve third-party certification.

Across all our manufacturing facilities, Mascot Engineering maintains strict quality controls and a rigorous quality assurance program to ensure products perform reliably and consistently.

Australian Made. Responsibly Managed.

We are immensely proud to be an Australian-owned manufacturer. Our proactive approach to reusing materials and water is just the beginning of our responsibility — to our customers, our communities, and future generations.
